@throatmuppet wait, i might be misremembering? i thought gor sure i've seen some greentexts that invert the < in specific circumstances, but i can't find any examples of that after looking... maybe it was a thing from some other imageboards?
@wizard @throatmuppet seems they added "cyantexting" in this commit with no explanation :( can't find any mentions of cyantext elsewhere either..

@ww @throatmuppet did some field research, it was 8chan that introduced pinktexting that started with a <. there are tons of reasons that its used on the site, which i won't go into here.

@wizard @throatmuppet @ww i don't really know myself, the > prefix has been traditionally used in (plaintext) emails to signify quotation, which ended up in markup languages and messageboards. My guess is that since quotation formatting becoming a meme "greentext" someone thought it would be a fun idea to have differently-colored text with "<" as an addition to that.

@hj @throatmuppet @wizard @ww it's a post formatting character on some imageboards, like kc and ylilauta (that comes out as cyan text)
