I bought the cheapest gas powered push mower they had at Lowes and it works okay. Depending on the application a self-propelled one might be preferrable.

It's just just under an acre, so not bad--push is good. I'm also considering just weedeating the whole thing, depending on the price difference between weedeaters and mowers--and since I'd need to get a weedeater along with getting a mower regardless. So might just go without the mower, only weedeat the lawn

Generally you can find used mowers in allmost new shape for little to nothing because most people anymore if it quits for any reason just get another one. Usually it's something simple
Push mowers need the air filter and spark plug replaced every season to run right, but they will kinda-sorta run for five or so years with no maintenance which can fool some people into thinking they're dead (when all they need is the air filter, spark plugs, and probably gas to be replaced). Riding mowers are more of a mixed bag. I got one kinda cheap because it was all I could afford but it only lasted two years.
