145okay so I need to use it on 145 servers and my gaming laptop?
Isnβt Linux that thing made by the libertarians?
Really just depends on what distro you use

Can you explain this like Iβm someone whose last meaningful engagement with computer technology involved punch cards and vacuum tubes?
poast hosts a mirror for gentoo because I have used gentoo for 20+ years, it is my distro of choice when I can deploy it (example the database this poast is about to be poasted to is running gentoo) so to give back for 20+ years of giving me my freedom back I have given them some hardware we own to host packages for people to sync
Nice. Now that I've got 500Mbps fiber I could actually do that for Slackware.
But honestly I think seeding the Slackware torrent is probably an even better way for me to pay them back. I also seed the Linux Mint Cinnamon and XFCE torrents.
as an XFCE user since I first installed gentoo on my thinkpad I think t42 or t42p I cant remember back in 2004 that same install has made it to every thinkpad I've had since. everything is exactly the same except I use a dock similar to elementary os's dock on it now (still xfce4). I can open that laptop and it's exactly the same as the day I really started to learn how to use linux. rolling release distros rock
one of our jannies uses strictly slackware, I will also host a mirror. poke me about this tomorrow and I'll make sure I get it done
fun graf lore fact: I first used/learned linux in the late 90s with Caldera OpenLinux 1.3. my brother bought a "linux for dummies" book while in high school. ncurses based installer called LISA (linux install and system administration) and I think slackware still uses that to this day, or at least they did the last time I installed it
Yeah, Slackware still uses the same basic installer as always.

1LISA was my first experience installing linux myself. I'd never seen curses or anything like it before
