@quercus @Humpleupagus @cjd There's gas all over western PA and upstate New York (but NY won't touch it because fracking is "dangerous"), Colorado, WY, Utah... Then there's the gulf coast, California, western Canada. Heck, most of France and Western Europe has some gas in the ground, there's just no political motivation to get it.

FWIW, there are ranches in my county that have gas wells on the property. Most of them get a gas line right off the wellhead for free as part of the deal (they also get about $5K/month if they own the minerals). It's possible to get gas in much of the world, just comes down to how hard you want to work for it.

@FourOh-LLC @raucao @cjd I often wonder about all the endangered species that are being killed by industrial man. One of the benefits of industrialization was allowing people to find and categorize species. So we wouldn’t know many of them even existed.

Also there’s a motivation for biologists to find species, since they go down in history as the discover of a species. They even get to name it. So the incentive is to subdivide ever further by trait.

@cjd @raucao uranium mining isn’t exactly Earth friendly, but some of the modern methods that are more like hydrological processes are fairly benign as long as it doesn’t get into the groundwater
