I'm a just a small town AAA graphics programmer in Chicago. I worked on Gears 5 and Gears Tactics. My work is secret, but my personal projects are not.

I like to post about my personal research, various side projects, and I like to think out loud a lot. Expect weird humor, esoteric ramblings, and occasionally also art I made out of math. I like implicit surface modeling the normal amount. Chronic pain enthusiast. 🏳️‍⚧️

Curses are just blessings with caveats.

i mained gentoo back in the day and was very proud that i slogged through the really hard installation process and learned a lot from it, but i'm relieved that the docs promise you can power through an installation in about an hour on a modern system if you are really hurried and i think that's great

i told my mom about my backup career plan (simply become a successful independent artist working in a medium I've never worked in significantly before) if the kleptocapitalists who are ripping the figurative copper out of the walls manage to crash the video games industry hard enough that i have to consider regular programming as a backup plan which they're also working around the clock to wall off, and she didn't try to talk me out of it lol

half the jobs I've had in my career involved working in a programming language that I had learned (or re-learned) in a week prior to the interview, to a degree of competence that I could talk intelligently about non-trivial aspects of the language, and demonstrate non-trivial tasks idiomatically. these languages were C#, Ruby, and C++.

I had a real cool dream last night where I was playing Cataclysm: Dark Days Ahead, and after murdering my way through a bunker full of cultists I found a device possibly a book that took me to a parallel world where there was this highway over a many lakes and rivers with all these abandoned facilities full of interesting things along the way. Somewhere along the way I found an armored space suit with great stats. This parallel world was very peaceful.

a game like Cross Code where you play a fictional mmo, but in addition to the game-within-the-game's in game currency with a cliche name like "gold" or "credits", there should also be a secondary in-game currency called "real money" (not to be confused with real world money). the game itself should also be an mmo with irl microtransactions
