@niconiconi I remember a circuit from a UK electronics magazine of the 1970s (Everyday Electronics?) that was a "clear sky detector". It alerted the amateur astronomer to good sky conditions. It detected a cloudy sky by looking for the reflected 50Hz flicker of the sodium streetlights of the time
