> DUBLIN, Feb 10 (Reuters) - Ireland rolled out a permanent basic income scheme for the arts on Tuesday, pledging to pay 2,000 creative workers 325 euros ($387) per week following a trial that participants said eased financial strain and allowed them to spend more time on projects.

What about giving cleaning ladies 325 euro a week so they can spend more time on projects?
@lain from what i understand the application process is based on the "projects", not the applicant's current occupation. if the cleaning lady wants to take three years to work on a project of her own she can apply.

simple fact of the matter is that if you desire a future with any art whatsoever that isn't AIsloρ / commercial capeshit these types of programs are going to become necessary. the market (such that it actually exists) does not create enough demand for original, authentic art in the same way it creates demand for cleaners.
@lain @rowb1t this is a great argument on the surface, HOWEVER the counter argument is this is how most museums in the entire world will shut down instantly if this argument is taken to the extreme. from the smithsonians to national museums to various parks etc etc to theatres normal to theatres of opera to etc etc

they're all art projects that are majority funded by tax money directly or indirectly, and ticket prices barely cover parts of actual running costs.

now if you think all that shit oughta be closed down anyway, i'll let you off the hook; if not tho then im putting on my nerd glasses
