The EU right is probably correct to want the union to go away.
The only European union that had any legitimacy was the one Otto Von Bismark cobbled together.

The EU is not necessarily a bad idea, as a trade union. The problem is that there are a bunch of people who want to make it into more of a country.
Unlike US states, European countries all have their own unique culture, politics, language, etc. So there's just no realistic path to merging them, and the people (really, Communists) who are trying to erase all of these unique cultures only serve to hasten the end of the EU project and a return to a bunch of tiny countries who all get completely shafted on trade agreements with US, Russia, and China.

@cjd @pepsi_man @Nils This. The EU could have made something wholesome but they made it cringe instead. And there is no cure to un-cringe the situation.
I think this is actually a natural result of:
1. Post-scarcity - so people are not forced to work all of the time, and
2. Democratic political system - so in one's leisure time, one can get involved in fucking up the systems that keep everyone alive
