Well... Lebanon aside, what happens if Israel attacks Iran? Is the US going to stay out of it? No, they'll just put Israeli flags on the munitions.
Maybe the "deal" is that if-and-when Israel re-starts the fighting, the US will treat it as a proxy war and will not be Officially Directly Involved.
