Mfw I discovered what a tonsil stone is and had nightmares even though I don't even have tonsils

mostly harmless, it's a type of cheese, really

Tyler told me about it because he had a sailor with a pen stabbing his mouth to pop out tonsil stones on the desk on night-check one night. I was like 🤢 🤢

i've never had anything removed from my body that is supposed to be there.

I had mine removed because they were large and I got strep every other month as a little girl and finally they were like "WE ARE REMOVING THEM!!!" And I'm positive the excessive infections and antibiotics use is why I'm so allergic to antibiotics now

I'm not sure why tonsillectomies were a thing that people did but I remember multiple people getting them; I don't recall hearing about anyone who had to get one because it was life-threatening so I'm not sure what that was about

usually people have their tonsils removed if they're problematic sometimes they can be, like the appendix, it's only removed if it's an issue

Did the tonsil swelling make the infections worse, or was it just so difficult to deal with that they decided to take them out?

I kept getting strep, I'm not kidding ALMOST every other month. It was too much so I had them removed but I believe back when I was a kid it was being done too often. They DO have a purpose, obviously God designed us perfectly. But

vestigal organs, right? Let's steal them.

but i persoanlly have never had any medical issues that resulted in something like that, in my life thus far lol

they said that about the apendix too, but just cuz you can lvie without it doesn't mean it has no purpose and they found that it does in fact have a purpose.

that's what my teacher said, i was like *shrug* i can get as much ice cream as i want any time. lol.

Had mine out at 5. My Son had his out at 15. They kept swelling and had to go. Upside is you can't get strep.

They are part of the immune system, really. Checking out what you are swallowing, sort of an early warning system.

One of those things that has changed as I got older, they don't swell up and get angry so much any more.

There's been a back and forth since the 1900s whether operating or just leaving it alone is safer.
