> The 120 Week Wall: Why Transformers (Not GPUs) are the Real AI Bottleneck?

https://geoconstraints.substack.com/p/the-120-week-wall-why-transformers

I pointed this out what, 2 or more years ago? Our grid is not able to sustain growth/expansion and is honestly at risk of failure/collapse from LPTs. The EIA has a report from several years ago that warns we have too many aged LPTs, many beyond their replacement date (+40 years old), and nobody is doing anything about it

And they cost a ton of money

And they take forever to build

And the biggest ones can't even be built in the USA anyway

You want to do a terrorism in the USA? Go take out some LPTs in a major city. If you pop the right ones the city will be without power for months, potentially running degraded for *years*

When we had the LPT blow up in downtown Madison, WI they were fortunate that excess capacity was available, but it took over 6 months to get a replacement. If the other LPT would have failed a good chunk of the city would have been cosplaying the late 1800s for a while
@Netraven yeah, it's crazy how we don't have a national reserve of these things, but it's kinda hard to do because they're nearly all custom sized
