@kaia I believe this is an alarm clock for deaf people. I've only seen it as mattress vibrators, same function though.

The contact points also exist for pillow alarms, which allow immobile people to call for help or be monitored, when they can't operate rip-cords or remote-controls.

@kaia Also fire alarms are sometimes hooked up to these, to wake a deaf person in case of emergency.
