frankly insane that americans use turkey instead of a proper bird like goose or duck.

@lain Still havent forgiven the ottomans for WW1
@lain But turkey is good too
@Mitsu there is zero fat on it, it tastes like cardboard
@lain why would you eat a noble bird like a goose ):
@whirly wow classist much
@lain the use of turkey is symbolic of struggle and perseverance. We use it not because it is easy, but because it is hard.
@lain have you seen how stupid turkeys look when they cross the street
it's cheap and huge, tons of meat
@whirly okay i don't know about that
@Paultron and doesn't taste good
quantity over quality ok
@Paultron i can respect that
@lain @Mitsu That's why you add gravy and/or cranberries. If you control your cooking well, it's not dry like the memes claim either. It's a big bird, relatively cheap and abundant, capable of feeding a big family depending on the size and it can be either lean and relatively healthy or decadent depending on sauce. It's a pretty good canvas, and it's nice that it allows even families of relatively modest means to not feel like they're missing out on the holiday.
Also, if turkey is too bland to your liking, there's also ham.
