Apparenly you can't just go and buy three wifi antennaes at the biggest electronics retailer in the country, two locations have only one stocked each. Buying a cheap router and harvesting them off it isn't an option either since they're all now either internal or non-detachable.

@mint Someone who is no longer with us on fedi or irl as well mailed me a BOOFWANG with a 4 ft antenna. What are you planning?
@graf Nothing much, just plopping a PCIe wifi card I had laying around into my work PC (Ethernet is limited to domain intranet and a thumbstick USB adapter is kinda crappy).
@mint You ever fuck around with sdr?
@graf Not really, shit's expensive.
@mint It was cheap here, I've got a bunch of usb sdr. Russian tariff bullshit?
@graf Good full-duplex SDRs that can do stuff like making your own cell tower cost a liver, and just snooping on radio is a bit boring. Plus no one in my area is interested in stuff like mesh networks, so hosting e.g. Reticulum node is a fool's errand that will only get me /marked/.
@mint You guys can get away with fucking with ham radio, ever consider that? Or same expense?
@graf Maybe lower, but everyone's also paranoid of hohol drones so you ain't putting a good antenna on your roof anytime soon.
@mint The thought of fucking with drones kinda makes me wanna be Russian now ngl
