145okay so I need to use it on 145 servers and my gaming laptop?
Isn’t Linux that thing made by the libertarians?
Really just depends on what distro you use

Can you explain this like I’m someone whose last meaningful engagement with computer technology involved punch cards and vacuum tubes?
poast hosts a mirror for gentoo because I have used gentoo for 20+ years, it is my distro of choice when I can deploy it (example the database this poast is about to be poasted to is running gentoo) so to give back for 20+ years of giving me my freedom back I have given them some hardware we own to host packages for people to sync
Nice. Now that I've got 500Mbps fiber I could actually do that for Slackware.
But honestly I think seeding the Slackware torrent is probably an even better way for me to pay them back. I also seed the Linux Mint Cinnamon and XFCE torrents.
as an XFCE user since I first installed gentoo on my thinkpad I think t42 or t42p I cant remember back in 2004 that same install has made it to every thinkpad I've had since. everything is exactly the same except I use a dock similar to elementary os's dock on it now (still xfce4). I can open that laptop and it's exactly the same as the day I really started to learn how to use linux. rolling release distros rock
one of our jannies uses strictly slackware, I will also host a mirror. poke me about this tomorrow and I'll make sure I get it done
fun graf lore fact: I first used/learned linux in the late 90s with Caldera OpenLinux 1.3. my brother bought a "linux for dummies" book while in high school. ncurses based installer called LISA (linux install and system administration) and I think slackware still uses that to this day, or at least they did the last time I installed it
you older than me?
just turned in april ya
I didnt get hardcore into anything until unironically 9/11. I was installing progeny linux (a debian fork that sucked major balls) and I was like fuck this time for something new and swapped to freeBSD. daily drove that until I found out about gentoo and I've been using that since
I also had two sparcstations. never got to fully utilize them because of the stupid proprietary display and keyboard connectors and being a teen with no job. sold them for supier cheap. look on ebay now, ones that look like somebody ran over them 400$ +
I used gak at sparc shit in computer shopper. I wanted one so bad lol
take me back bro

remember when you got NNTP(usenet) access for free with your internet and they just took it away from everybody in like 2003 or 2004
Oh, yes...
My first home internet connection was a cheap, shitty dialup provider, but they had an NNTP server as it was the custom at the time...
i also saw a lot of fake celebrity porn. a lot of celebrity porn
no this is back in the julia roberts days
the first naked woman I ever saw was a fake nude from usenet of julia roberts finger blasting some other bitch in a bathtub made it the wallpaper on my family pc too
being like 10 or 11 with unrestricted access and knowing that i could just ctrl+alt+delete and close netnanny and have unrestricted admin access to the pc
