According to my Methodist coworker the entire Methodist church is currently schisming over gay people

I wonder what theology students a thousand years hence will think of this, will the 21st century be viewed as the century of the homo schisms? Will there be weird Latin jargon for it? Will it be seen as a weird, almost forgotten quirk like Arianism? Will Christianity be divided into two schismatic groups of pro- and anti- homo churches with each faction in communion among themselves? Are gays the next Filioque?

@scathach They have been schisming for half a decade now. Most who were gonna leave have already left. Some chicanery for the general conference the year they officially made "Gay Good" the rule, kept the international coalition from even coming into the country to attend to vote on it (because they were basically unanimously against it) so the Americans rammed it down the gullet of the denomination at large.
@pwm @scathach its been subject to subversive elements since at least 1993, I used to be in it and at one of the conferences, some people were trying to introduce explicit Gnostic concepts like "Sophia" being the explicitly-feminine Holy Spirit co-equal to the Holy Father and Jesus. PEople went apeshit but incredibly no one was removed or fired.
@sun @pwm @scathach i've seen a [limited] sample of christians that are frustrated the GOP et all have chosen to die on the "gay bad" hill when it's barely even a line item in the bible (and even those two sites are like, layers of proxy removed from jesus.)

my question is when are the thumpers going to enforce the rest of the word of christ. i don't see very much taking care of the poor and the sick. and people are definitely mixing fabrics against the decree of leveticus (the book where the stronger of the two anti-gay lines comes from.)
@icedquinn @pwm @scathach I have seen leftists argue that american evangelicalism is basically a CIA op, its appealing to blame it all on the CIA but it clearly predates the CIA lol. but there is some evidence that the 1980s pivot of american evangelicalism is domestic psyop produced.

my point being, it's really not bible based or all that even historic, its a weird modern american thing. which, a lot of people know, but its true nature is misunderstood
@sun @pwm @scathach before the CIA, the bogeymen were the Jesuits. The churches being compromised is something something AJ brings up from time to time.

I just like asking if you're going to cite Leveticus for putting gays to death, when are you going to also kill everyone who violates OSHA (it's a sin to not put appropriate railing on structures, per the housing code)
@sun @icedquinn @pwm @scathach tru.

There's this presybterian guy, i can't remember his name, makes really good church history videos. His gripe is that mainline protestant churches have become really liberal over time. So gay-affirming, pro-abortion etc. And as a result most people who care just become evangelicals.

On the one hand you have (jewish, whatever i know its cliche at ts point) liberals making the churches gay and muslim-friendly and gnostic and all this crap, and then once people leave they fall into the hands of extremely zionist evangelical megachurches.

Then in latin america, every "right winger" is actually just a pro-US pro-Israel evangelical zionist. And they specifically and trying to displace atheist left-wing governments. Colombia recently comes to mind.
@sun @icedquinn @pernia @pwm @scathach I'm 100% convinced of this. Way too many examples I can think of where the intelligence community domestically and at large within Five Eyes does its own thing that doesn't benefit any member nation at all and pushes a weird nefarious agenda.

MI5 was originally mostly staffed by members of the Fabian Society. Weird democratic socialist Zionist club with satanic priests involved. Aleister Crowley was a member btw. It's kind of like how the "intelligence community" today is all friends with Marina Abramovic per the Podesta emails.
@sun @icedquinn @pernia @pwm @scathach "Drugs, sex, & rock n roll" was a direct result of MI5 agents working with the OSS and then later the CIA to test mind control techniques from the Roman Cult of Isis. The Cult in Rome used drugged incense, ritual sex, and rhythmically addictive music to induce trancelike states and total obedience in its adherents. But the CIA went further. They didn't just test these as mind control methods. They went further, creating an actual cult that boomers joined without fully realizing it. There's a reason hippies use the Isis ankh/cross as the meme peace symbol and put it everywhere.
