I just learned that the "6 million Jews died in the Holocaust" does not include the number of non-Jewish demographics. I always thought it was "6 million people, which include Jewish and gay and trans and black and Romani and Communists and so on". It turns out the Nazis killed a LOT more people than just 6 million. Numbers appear to be a death toll of around 11–13+ million people killed in the Holocaust.

honestly this always shocked me when I'd see it discussed online. idk if its canadian schools in general or just the schools from where I grew up, but we were always told that around 12 to 13 million people died in the holocaust. it was never "6 million jews", it was "12-13 million people". seeing the 6 million statistic talked about online all the time, or the perception that it was only jewish people, always felt so shocking. idk if its just a us thing or something? but like, I've never understood why half of the victims just... don't get talked about.
