I said this back when windows 10 came out and "offered" Microsoft logins while also having an always-on keylogger but the government will 100% check who logs in and checks what they do on their OS. California wants to force this on Linux even (impossible lol). Stop using windows 11 for anything but your office job you retards

@teto the law says you have to ask for age on account setup and have to have an API for applications to get the age of the current user, things that Linux already has
@teto strictly speaking the law requires age brackets which linux doesn't support but any application can just get the exact birthday of a user
@sun@shitposter.world @teto@cawfee.club why would this apply to linux? i thought it applied towards operating systems.
@lolitechengineer @sun it won't apply to Linux. It's impossible to do the Microsoft style account shit there.
@teto @lolitechengineer the /etc/passwd scheme already can hold a birthday
@sun @lolitechengineer the shit a government expects to be provided here is not a simple text file on your computer. Whatever think what you want
Shit linux impls like Ubuntu and Fedora will probably implement something. Everyone else will just ignore it like as if California is gonna sue them. Most of them offer the downloads from Europe anyway.
In other news: Did you know VLC violates a shitload of software patents? They're based in France which doesn't honor software patents so they don't care.

@cjd @lolitechengineer @sun we will just get whichever Linux is hosted in a country that doesn't care. I bet flatpaks work on Red Star OS

And then Cali won't have the balls to do anything.
Remember when [I forgot who] went after yt-dl's github repo and an epic shitstorm ensued?

And then the backbone operators residing in Ireland have to comply ans make DPI/reroutes.
That idea is dead. We need an I2P-like, any-thing anywhere routable network in parallel.
Meh, big doubt on that one.
1. It doesn't do a damn bit of good because someone stands up a website and lets people register with a random email and start shitposting, suddenly all of that cool IP address stuff is useless because you have to go bother him for the logs, which he may or may not even keep...
2. People are lazy, the world isn't even getting off of IPv4, let alone some kind of personal ID based IPv6.

@cjd @teto @lolitechengineer @CapitalB we're a long way from that level of control but it's on the roadmap and little steps like this get us there
@cjd @CapitalB @lolitechengineer @teto btw they will shore up the lack of technical ability with awful puishments for circumvention first, it will just take time
Oh it's undoubtedly what They Want, it's just that reality has a nasty habit of getting in the way of Their Plans.
@cjd @teto @lolitechengineer @CapitalB in this particular time I think they have a shot so we should be extra careful right now but opinions may differ
