There's no reason to discuss operating systems, the best OS has come and gone long ago.

I think in terms of Windows, it was probably one of the best. I don't remember any significant BSOD, which pre-NT, was the plague.
If I remember right, XP was a consumerized version of 2000.
Windows Vista was perhaps better because they rewrote the kernel, and (though I never used it) I guess Windows 7 may have been a little more usable and it was supposedly the same kernel.
One thing you really can't take away from them is the file manager concept. That era was perhaps the pinnacle of UX. Modern UX people are useless.
