the HEMA clubs I mainly go to are outdoors so I have more experience fencing on dirt or grass than I do on flat flooring. I think there is something to fighting on uneven ground that fencers that only practice at indoor schools miss out on adapting their footwork to. I also have to admit I have had pretty epic moments where we kick up dust as we slide around during a fight outside.

nearly all my practice was either indoors or at night and seeing a sword in sunlight was always so bizarre and disorienting ๐

never too late to pick it back up! maybe look into historical rapier fencing
