@vitalis I've always told people never to train themselves if they haven't received good quality structured training lol. If u can bear to choke some of this down, he swings with the most unbalanced uneven form I've ever witnessed I'd make him do stance training for a year minimum first a 10 pound granny on meth would make short work of him after each swing lol
yeah I think it is always good to have some kind of instruction or training experience first before you try to practice techniques by yourself. there is a high risk of practicing bad form without others to correct you. but to be fair, some people might live in an area where the closest HEMA or kendo school is more than 2 or 3 hours away and they have no choice but to self-study or just follow along with youtube tutorials.

I am happy for the guy in this vid because at least he is doing something to get his body moving. I think it would be easier for him to maintain balance if he works on his core for a better baseline in fitness level. I would also like to see him eventually incorporate some foot work instead of stationary forms.

I suspect his homemade trainer weapon is already much too heavy to practice the proper form you would have with a real sword. But at least its a work out in itself similar to doing exercises with weighted indian clubs. I hope he eventually visits a fencing school to give him a better foundation
