Natural Gas is such a dumb energy source.
It's incompressible bullshit that needs to be frozen to negative a million degrees to become liquid.
Otherwise you need to transport it in pipelines which need to be built out everywhere.
And the only reason anyone messes around with this dumb shit is because it's way cheaper than anything else.

It's more expensive.

@cjd The other reason is less CO2 from combustion, and cleaner than coal. But yeah, shipping it in liquid form eradicates the emissions savings.

CO2 is a meme, but air quality where powerplants are located near populated areas is an important consideration.

But at this point, it's even more expensive than like propane so it's pretty dumb.

Anyway, countries just need to get off their collective behinds and build nuclear generation capacity. This business of mining, shipping, and burning is mega dumb.

@cjd @raucao uranium mining isn’t exactly Earth friendly, but some of the modern methods that are more like hydrological processes are fairly benign as long as it doesn’t get into the groundwater

Yeah but you don't do it anywhere that matters. The problem with coal is you tend to end up burning it near cities.

There is no "good way" to maintain a Technological Civilization. We are trapped in a cycle, and complaining about it is like complaining about old age, death and taxes, and everything else inevitable.

Hydroelectric destroyed species, wind destroy species, everything humans do wipes out species. Even on the best days, your "idea" for a more "sustainable Earth" is only marginally better. Many times its worse.

Environmental activists are the most tedious people ever.

@FourOh-LLC @raucao @cjd I often wonder about all the endangered species that are being killed by industrial man. One of the benefits of industrialization was allowing people to find and categorize species. So we wouldn’t know many of them even existed.

Also there’s a motivation for biologists to find species, since they go down in history as the discover of a species. They even get to name it. So the incentive is to subdivide ever further by trait.

There was a lot of human-like bipeds that got slain to extinction.

Like "giants" in the old fairy tales. They actually existed, but they were killed off because they threatened humans and humans proved better fighters.

The archeological remains still exist, but digging them is illegal because it undermines the myth that humans are entirely distinct from animals.

The distinction from animals is necessary in order to maintain the myth that humans are all completely identical and there are no species or sub-species amongst what we call humans.
