What's so bad about it? The header guards? They take 5 seconds. It's simple and it works.
I got your point about it being not too big of a deal the first time, you don't have to triple down on loving the turing-complete secondary language that ships with C that every sane person on the planet tells you to mostly only use for the include guards (made necessary by a 50 year old hold over)
