The concerted jokes about the lack of air conditioning in Europe seems to me like an effort to paint Europe as being third-world, effectively dismissing the real problem that it is being invaded by the third-world.

@black6 Let's not forget that in the same way that Europe finds itself unfortunately suffering from regulatory over reach that has left the masses suffering, the US (albeit to a less existential degree) has also found itself in a similar situation with issues such as regulations on vehicle emissions which has decimated the small and mid-size diesel vehicle industry. Instead of pointing and laughing, we should be learning valuable lessons from their real and unfortunate suffering.

There's actually no regulation on AC here, that's a meme. There are SOME regulations on how your house can look - you can't paint it pink. People are saying they can't put ACs because of this, but mostly just not a thing unless their neighbors are the devil.
The real reason people don't have AC is purely cultural - like the same reason Americans don't have bidets. People feel like "I don't really need it" and that feeling has a strong pull.
The regulatory situation is also weird.
You can't get a soda bottle with a removable cap, but those weirdo "anti-spill" spouts on gas cans don't exist here. Incandescent lights are also still widely available.
Zoning is very strict, with many places forbidding new buildings entirely, but WeTLAnDs (swamps) where you have to protect the nAtuRaL BioDiVeRsiTy (mosquitos) is not a thing.

You would think that - at least - if a person was honestly afraid of a toilet paper shortage back in 2020, then that person would be thinking about a bidet at least as an emergency backup solution.

@Robert_Edwardly @cjd @Jackwood @black6 I don’t get this. It’s not like people don’t wash and rinse their behind while taking a shower. It’s like using a wet wipe but you don’t have a gross non flushable 💩 cloth.
There's the "bowl with a faucet" thing that's common in Middle East and Europe - and there's the upward-facing pressure washer thing that I guess is an Asian thing - but I've never seen one of those up close.

@cjd @Jackwood @black6 @Robert_Edwardly Mine has a lever that changes it from fountain to jet, and I put a supply line ball valve on so I can further tune or turn it off when guests with young kids come over. A toddler thought you flushed with the seat lever and squirted the wall more than once 😆
