Esc just goes out of insert mode or unhighlights a text area (which is what I would expect a browser to do instead of stopping page load).

@phnt @fluffy Esc has always done that, to my knowledge. Entering/exiting insert mode and interactions with highlighting sounds more like Vimium/Vimperator.
