Whoever at Mozilla decided that pressing Esc while a page is loading should stop loading page needs to have their brain gears rearranged.

@fluffy I don't remember it being a thing. It's also possible I'm now too much qutebrowser-brained where Esc just goes out of insert mode.

Esc just goes out of insert mode or unhighlights a text area (which is what I would expect a browser to do instead of stopping page load).
