Today's Google Announcement that they are essentially killing search and making it just AI summaries so you don't need to go to the original sites may be a blessing in disguise. Present day content creators that really produce content will be strangled off. The new paradigm will be feeding the LLM bots. What will they be fed? They'll be fed more LLM generated content. It'll be a human centipede of content. Those of us who want that, which sadly is probably like >80% of the population, will go to their big tech LLM portals as their sole source of content. The producers that eschew that will continue to produce and hopefully connect with those of us that can't stand that fucking shit. How do we maximize access and discovery to these real producers and not slop farms? That's the question we should be asking. I don't think this will be the demise of Google or any of the big tech platforms. There is plenty of money to be made feeding junk food to the masses. I think we should think about how we generate sufficient discoverability to real creators and get sufficient revenue streams to them that they can keep doing it for a living, or at least a decent paying part time gig. #google #GenAI

@vayda @djsumdog @hankg @lain @sulaco I've used it for ~2 years and hosted my own in that period. It's slightly better, but you frequently get ratelimited. At some point the "meta" part of it stopped working for me and it only used one search engine. And when most search engines are utterly useless now, you'll still get useless results.

I also used 4get for a month, which is just a proxy to multiple search engines. It was mid.
