I knew my dad was hopelessly wicked by the way he always smashed up the ramen noodles before cooking them

@KingOfWhiteAmerica I used to split the brick into 8 pieces. idk why. I think it helped when cooking in microwave because they wouldn't poke out of the water as much
@suquili At least that’s relatively orderly. Not my dad. He’d strangle the package
@KingOfWhiteAmerica @suquili YES MY DAD WOULD DO THIS TOO
As a kid I thought "maybe it makes it more fun or something? Why didn't they just make the noodles tiny if that's how it was supposed to be made!?
"
Didn't realize until I had another when I was much older "OH HAHA THAT'S NOT ON THE INSTRUCTIONS OR ANYTHING MY DAD IS JUST A NUTCASE"
(I love him, but what a goober)

@scenesbycolleen @KingOfWhiteAmerica My mom makes this "chinese coleslaw" (probably not chinese at all) which includes ramen pieces as part of the flavor. It's pretty good and edible unlike normal coleslaw.
The ramen part of the recipe calls for crushing up the noodles into small pieces. She'd have me whack the ramen package with a mallet while she did other stuff lol

@suquili @KingOfWhiteAmerica lol noooo you have to crush it with your hands without breaking the bag it's a SKILL
"normal" coleslaw is good if you make it yourself

@scenesbycolleen @suquili @KingOfWhiteAmerica who is cole, and why is his slaw so good?
@elftummy @scenesbycolleen @suquili @KingOfWhiteAmerica naw slaw is a verb
cole was slawwed
cole was slawwed
@reallyangry @elftummy @scenesbycolleen @KingOfWhiteAmerica I thought it was "cold slaw" because it was in the refrigerator. "Slaw" sounded very fitting with how much I hated it. Like it's the sound you make when you throw it up
@suquili @reallyangry @scenesbycolleen @KingOfWhiteAmerica Unfortunately I actually know where the name comes from.
And even worse.. I know it's Dutch
Koolsla
Kool - cabbage
Sla - salad
lit. Cabbage salad
Originally Americans DID call it Cold Slaw, eventually changing it to Cole Slaw, cole coming from Caulis, latin relating to cabbage, coming full circle

@HonkHonkBoom @KingOfWhiteAmerica @elftummy @reallyangry @scenesbycolleen @suquili I don’t understand why my cats like pork so much, both of them combined are less meat than a pork shoulder and they get at it like they took it down themselves
@sapphire @KingOfWhiteAmerica @elftummy @reallyangry @scenesbycolleen @suquili They do tend to get possessive on the occasion they managed to get their teeth into a big chunk of meat.. but so do i

don't care for it now. can't tell ya
@scenesbycolleen @KingOfWhiteAmerica Maybe. I've had chicken sandwiches at restaurants with housemade coleslaw and it wasn't much better. Something about cabbage and whatever else is in it just made me gag as a kid. I physically couldn't handle it. These days I just don't like it
@scenesbycolleen @suquili @KingOfWhiteAmerica You order coleslaw and the crush it in your hands? Wtf Colleen
@scenesbycolleen @suquili @KingOfWhiteAmerica >lol noooo you have to crush it with your hands without breaking the bag it's a SKILL
They've changed the packaging a couple of times since. Before it was easy to break the bag, but now you're stretching it until the seam suddenly splits open and scatters broken noodles all over the kitchen
(I'm most definitely *NOT* speaking from personal experience

@scenesbycolleen @suquili @KingOfWhiteAmerica Coleslaw requires a perfect blend of ingredients for the sauce if you want it to taste good which is the biggest problem with it and also why so many people get it wrong.
