@phnt @Suiseiseki if you think gnu is slop, then you shouldn't have ever so much as considered a gnu - hurd + linux distribution viable in the first place, since they all use a slop shell, a slop libc implementation, slop core utilities, a slop c compiler, a slop build system, and dozens upon dozens, if not hundreds, of other slop programs all under a slop license.

@mia I'm slowly getting mentally prepared to eventually jumpship away from Linux completely. The kernel isn't bad, but userspace is starting to become a serious dumpster fire with no signs of stopping.

I can easily see myself on FreeBSD or something 5 years from now.

@phnt @Suiseiseki rm license.txt is not, unfortunately, a legally recognized action. in the eyes of the state -- which can and will make your life hell, up to and includong tormenting your loved ones -- software licenses matter and you can be in violation of them. if you somehow manage to patch linux such that it can be built with `busybox ls linux/src/* | busybox sort -n | busybox xargs busybox cat | tcc -I/usr/include/musl -L/usr/lib/musl` (which would be cauchy as an engineering project even if the kernel itself sucked as a result) you would still need to release it under the gnu general public license version 2.0-only or be prepared to recieve a very not-rm-able summons.

@monkyyy @phnt @Suiseiseki poison wasn't the most literal analogy. think of it like a lego tower, but some bricks contain significant doses of caesium or plutonium or similar and will cause cancer after some exposure. if only two bricks are this way, you can simply discqrd them and replace them with normal bricks. compare that to if 51% of the bricks are proprietary cancer causing bricks, where the problem is much bleaker.

I find the gnu/mit debate completely absurd, I just publish all code without a drop of legalese and wouldnt listen if I wanted to mix two libs with different licences I just would, whatever. I dont have a horse in the race, I just like the vitalism of anger and open extremism.

There is not much proprietary to remove from the ACPI driver, therefore it works with the latest hardware.

The latest proprietary intel, with the latest proprietary integrated graphics and the latest proprietary wired NIC work fine.

It works well with proprietary nvidia cards too - such as the 780 Ti from Nov 2013.

Newer Nvidia cards work too, but Nvidia sabotaged the reclocking.

It even works in framebuffer mode for sabotaged ATI and AMD cards.

The latest GNUbootable ThinkPad's are from 2008-2009 anyway.

BSD projects regard all GPL versions as equally unwanted, as their proprietary masters can't take such software, make it proprietary and use it against them.

@sendpaws @Suiseiseki Do you have the cc, c89 and c98 wrappers? My guess is not, because building those is disabled by default on CRUX. Lack of these wrappers breaks certain build systems and is a POSIX requirement (for cc).

They use newer GCC

They still use GeePeeLv2 GCC for the system. There is a build.sh option to build everything with LLVM though.
